The islands of the Scottish Hebrides lie on the Atlantic coast of Scotland and span a distance of almost 150 miles from north to south. Remote, wild, largely uspoiled and sparsely inhabited, these are our cruising grounds. They form part of the last natural wilderness in Europe, where you can enjoy wide open spaces, stunning views and scenery and a wide diversity of wildlife. They are home to the highest sea cliffs in Europe and some of the largest bird colonies in the world. Ancient oakwoods cling to rocky exposed coastlines and southern slopes of remote glens, indicative of areas unaffected by human activity.
This section is just to whet your appetite. After all, we don't want to give too much away! Remember - these are only the islands that we visit - we haven't mentioned the remote sea lochs and sheltered bays.....
Four night cruises may see us visiting Mull, Jura, The Garvellachs, The Treshnish Isles, Gometra, Ulva and Coll. They could also include the Corryvreckan whirlpool, Loch Sunart and a visit to Staffa - the home of Fingal's Cave.
Six night cruises would also normally see us venturing further north through the Small Isles (Muck, Eigg, Rum and Canna) and possibly on to Skye (Loch Scavaig, Loch Coruisk, Isle Ornesay). This then opens the opportunity for a visit to the remote mainland sea lochs of Loch Nevis and Loch Hourn which are inaccessible by road.
Eight night cruises should allow us to cross the Minch to the Outer Isles where Mingulay, Vatersay, The Monachs, Taransay, Scarp and the Shiants give us plenty of scope to explore further and also to make the crossing to St Kilda, if scheduled. We may travel around the north of Skye and visit the quiet island of Rona or the sheltered anchorage at Plockton before passing under the Skye Bridge to see Loch Duich and Eilean Donan Castle and the beautiful Kyles of Lochalsh.
If you use the links at the left of this page, you can view maps that show you the locations of the different islands, along with some photographs taken at each place.
